Is there a free ZUGFeRD tool?
Yes. Creating invoices starts free: after signing up, 10 transactions are free, no credit card required. Checking an e-invoice is free even without an account (3 checks per day). After that you pay per transaction or on a monthly plan, with no subscription lock-in; credit does not expire.
Where can I download a sample ZUGFeRD invoice?
Right here on this page: a complete sample invoice as a ZUGFeRD PDF (PDF/A-3 with embedded XML) and the EN 16931 XML on its own, both free to download without logging in. Can I convert an existing PDF into ZUGFeRD?
Yes. You upload your existing invoice PDF, we embed the compliant EN 16931 XML and turn it into a Factur-X/ZUGFeRD PDF. Your layout stays unchanged.
How can I read the data from a ZUGFeRD invoice?
Upload the ZUGFeRD PDF to the check tool: we extract the embedded XML and immediately show the invoice data we read (issuer, number, amount, IBAN). Via the API this works automatically through /v1/extract.
Do I need to download and install any software?

What is the difference between ZUGFeRD/Factur-X and XRechnung?
ZUGFeRD and Factur-X are the same hybrid format: a PDF with embedded XML according to EN 16931. XRechnung is the German purely structured XML format, used mainly for public sector clients (B2G). We create and validate both.
Are e-invoices mandatory from 2025?
Since 1 January 2025, German businesses must be able to receive e-invoices; the obligation to issue them is being phased in until 2028. Our service covers both sides: creating and checking.
